Freiburg im Breisgau: Germany
Freiburg im Breisgau is a city in Baden-Wrttemberg, Germany, in the Breisgau region, on the western edge of the southern Black Forest (in German language: Schwarzwald) with about 200,000 inhabitants. It is situated at 4759’43” north, 751’11” east. Popular opinion has it that Freiburg is the warmest, sunniest city in Germany. It straddles the Dreisam river, on the foothills of the Schlossberg. The city is surrounded by the Black Forest mountains Rosskopf and Bromberg in the east, and in the south and west by the Schnberg, Tuniberg and the Kaiserstuhl.
Culture in Freiburg
Because of its scenic beauty, relatively warm and sunny climate and easy access to the Black Forest, Freiburg is a hub for regional tourism. The longest cable car in Germany (3.6 km, or about 2.25 miles) runs from just outside the city to a nearby mountain called Schauinsland. The city has an unusual system of gutters (called Bchle) that run throughout its centre. These Bchle, once used to provide water to fight fires and refresh livestock, are constantly flowing with water diverted from the Dreisam. Local tradition has it that if you step in a Bchle, you will marry a Freiburger.

History
The town was founded in 1157 by Berchtold IV von Zähringen. It has been a member of the Swiss Confederation since 1481.
Sights
Like its sister city Bern, Fribourg has preserved its medieval center as a whole that is now one of the largest in Europe. Consisting of the neighborhoods Bourg, Auge and Neuveville its old town is rich in fountains and churches dating from the 12th century until the 17th century.
?wiebodzice (German Freiburg in Schlesien) is a town in south-western Poland with 24,700 inhabitants (as of 1994).
Situated in the Lower Silesian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Walbrzych Voivodship (1975–1998).
The city is situated next to "Ksi?? Castle" which during the World War II, together with the underground cave complex, was expanded to create Adolf Hitler's private quarters there.
Old fortifications from around 1279, the year the city was founded, still remain.
