Famous GAA commentator Michel Muircheartaigh was born west of Dingle in 1930. Dingle is twinned with Tolfa, an italian town.
In 2005, Gaeltacht Affairs Minister amon Cuv announced that anglicised place names (such as ‘Dingle’) of Gaeltacht towns and villages would no longer feature on Government signposts, and only the Irish language names (An Daingean will be the abbreviation used of the Irish name of Dingle) will appear. In the case of Dingle, this move has been particularly controversial, as the town relies heavily on the tourist industry, and some residents fear that the change could prevent potential visitors finding their way to Dingle.

Tralee (Irish: Trá Lí) is the county town of County Kerry in Ireland. It is situated in the southwest corner of Ireland. The name Tralee comes from the Irish Trá Lí, or Trá Laoi, which means "strand of the Lee" (river), although some believe it comes from the Irish Trá Liath meaning "grey strand". The town is in a deep valley in the MacGillicuddy Reeks, beside the Lakes of Killarney, part of the Killarney National Park. The town is also famous for its history, as well as the cathedral it is also home to Ross Castle, Muckross Abbey and Innisfallen Island, the location of a ruined monastery.
Because of its natural and historical interest, and its close proximity to the Dingle peninsula, Skelligs and Ring of Kerry it is a popular tourist town.
