Glenties (Na Gleannta in Irish, meaning “The Glens”) is a small town in the northwest of Ireland in central County Donegal. The town is situated where two glens meet, northwest of the Blue Stack Mountains. Glenties is a previous winner of the National Tidy Towns competition.

One of the town’s most striking buildings is its unusual church, St Connell’s, which was built in 1974 to replace the old church. The building has a flat roof sloping to the ground at a sharp angle. The original bell from the first church is still used today in the newer church.
Glenties is one of only two places in all of Donegal served by rail. The Fintown – Glenties railway line is more of a tourist attraction than an important piece of infastructure, sweeping through the beautiful scenery of County Donegal. The line was built in 1895 and reopened in 1995.

Stranorlar (Srath an Urláir in Irish) is a small town in County Donegal which forms one of the "twin towns" of Stranorlar/Ballybofey on either side of the River Finn.

For nearly 100 years, Stranorlar was the headquartes of the County Donegal Railway system (originally, the Finn Valley Railway), with services to Derry and Letterkenny via Strabane, to Ballyshannon and Killybegs via Donegal, and to Glenties. At its peak the railway had 130 employees. The last train ran from Stranorlar in 1959.
