?widnica (German Schweidnitz) is a town in southwestern Poland. According to the 2004 estimate the town has a total population of 60,674. Situated in the Lower Silesian Voivodship (since 1999), previously in Wa?brzych Voivodship (1975-1998). It’s the 7th largest town of that unit of administrative division.
History
In the 18th century ?widnica was an important fortification. The importance of the city declined with the developpment of Walbrzych after 1945.
