Hamrun is a village in the centre of Malta. The villagers are traditionally known as Tas-Sikkina literally meaning “of the knife”. It is a commercial centre in Malta, particularly renowned for the various furniture shops. It is also the birthplace of the Blessed Dun George Preca and it is the hometown of former President Guido de Marco. Hamrun is also famous for its (under-achieving) football club – Hamrun Spartans.

Birkirkara (or B'Kara) is a city of 25,000 inhabitants in central Malta. It is the largest city on the island. The village consists of three autonomous parishes: St Helen, St Joseph, and St Mary. It also houses one of the most famous colleges in Malta, St Aloysius' College. Birkirkara is the home town of President Edward Fenech Adami and Opposition Leader Alfred Sant.

The Birzebbuga Philharmonic & Marching Band (Socjetą Filarmonika San Pietru Banda Birzebbuga) was founded in 1990 and participates actively in cultural and religious activities all over the island of Malta. In February 2004, the band performed in Port El Kantaui, Tunisia.
