Rožnava : Slovakia

Ro?ava (Hungarian: Rozsny, German: Rosenau, Latin: Rosnavia) is a town in Slovakia, near Koice. It is the seat of Ro?ava Okres in the Preov Region, and has a population of 19,690.

Ro?ava was first mentioned in 1291. During the Middle Ages it was a prosperous mining town for gold, silver, and iron. Ro?ava is now a popular tourist attraction with a beautiful historic town centre. The town is an episcopal seat and has a cathedral.

The name of the town derives from the German word for roses (Rosen).

A famous son of the town is Pavel Jozef afrik.
