Östersund : Sweden

stersund Municipality listen? is a municipality in the middle of Sweden where the city stersund is the seat with a population of 43,536.

stersund is a town which borders the fifth largest lake in Sweden, Storsjn. It is also the location of Sweden’s most northerly rune stone, Frsstenen, and has a museum by the name Jamtli, which has both an enclosed exhibition area and an outdoor area which contains old buildings from Jmtland County (similar to Skansen in Stockholm). The museum contains some very interesting tapestries from ?1050 AD. stersund is one of the main campus sites of Mid Sweden University.

The city was founded in 1786 and was given its charter by King Gustav III of Sweden. Slowly developing in its first 100 years, the city expanded rapidly after the arrival of a railway in 1879. For a long time a city built on county administration and a strong military presence, however, the armed forces are on their way out. In 1997 the 4th Swedish artillery regiment was dissolved, and during the fall of 2004 the Swedish government decided to close down the military academy, the 5th infantry regiment and the Frs air base as well, leaving nothing behind.

Söderköping : Sweden

Söderköping is a municipality in Östergötland County, in southeast Sweden. Covering an area of 671.9 km², the municipality has a total population of 13,936 (6,967 males and 6,969 females), giving a population density of 20.7 inhabitants per km². In 1595 the Riksdag of the Estates assembled at Söderköping and elected Duke Charles regent of Sweden in place of the Catholic Sigismund, who was king of both Sweden and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Söderköping stands at the eastern end of the Göta kanal, a 390-km long canal opened in 1832 to connect Gothenburg to the Baltic Sea by inland waterway.

Skara : Sweden

Skara is a Municipality in Västra Götaland County, in western Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 439.3 km². Of the total population of 18 305, 8 971 are male, and 9 334 are female. The population density of the community is 42 inhabitants per km². Skara was, according to local legend, founded in AD 988, making it one of the oldest cities in Sweden. At this time it was one of only two cities in what was to become Westrogothia, the other being Lödöse. In AD 1050 it became a bishop's see, which it remains to this day.

Torshälla : Sweden

Torshälla is a city in the province of Södermanland, Sweden. Its population is approximately 9000 inhabitants. Torshälla is one of the oldest cities in Sweden and received city rights as early as 1317 from King Birger. Part of the Church of Torshälla is from 1100 but there are proofs that the city already existed in the year 700 as an old heathen gathering place where the god Thor was worshipped. The name Torshälla origins from "Thors hällar" which means place for sacrifying to Thor.
